Chesapeake Area Metalworking Society
Mailing List Information
NOTE: The list server does NOT forward your attachments. If you try, it will substitute a short text attachment indicating attachments are not allowed.
NOTE: You must be subscribed in order to post. This applies to EVERY address that you use for posting. If you wish to post from multiple addresses, each of those addresses must be subscribed. If you desire additional post-only subscriptions, please contact the webmaster with your request. If your address changes please unsubscribe using the old one and resubscribe using the new one. If you have lost access to your old email address, please contact webmaster for assistance.
The Chesapeake Area Metalworking Society is a club that was spawned from the rec.crafts.metalworking newsgroup on the Internet. As such, it is only natural that we communicate with one another using e-mail. The club maintains an e-mail list server which functions as a non-real-time chat group.
The list server also serves as the primary method of notifying members about meetings.
Anyone may join our list provided that they furnish their real name and do not use the list to transmit spam, vulgarities, or excessive off topic material.
This list server does not forward attachments because of the risk of virus transmission.
By subscribing to the CAMS list server, you agree not to post any material that infringes on copyrights of others or which is illegal under the laws of the United States of America or the State of Virginia.
By posting a message on the CAMS list server you grant the owner of the CAMS-CLUB.org domain the non-exclusive right to publish the content the message on the list, and to aggregate the content, exclusive of your email address, into any future derivative work.
Information on using the list server is given below.
with the following line in the SUBJECT line of the message:
subscribe
You must put only the word subscribe in your subject line or your request will be ignored by the list server software!!!
After your request has been received by the server, you will receive a confirmation request to which you must reply in order to be added to the list.
Your name and e-mail address will automatically be derived from the headers of your message. This is to prevent others from adding you to the list without your permission. After you confirm you will be sent a welcoming e-mail explaining how to manage your subscription. Be sure to save this e-mail for future reference. If you do not receive the confirmation AND the welcome message, please contact directly to try to resolve any problems. It is increasingly common for e-mail filters to interfere with the proper operation of mailing lists.
Only subscribers are allowed to post messages to the list server. Messages with HTML formatting and messages with attachments are not appropriate for sending to list servers.
When responding to a message, please trim away excess quoted information that does not need to be repeated and change the subject line if you are now discussing a new topic. This is especially important when using digest mode since the incoming subject line will be the digest number and the quoted information will be the entire digest.
It is also advisable when replying to a message to check the "TO" address to see that it is actually going to the list server. A few people post using software which causes the reply to go to them as an individual, rather than to the list server.
You may leave the list at any time by sending a "unsubscribe" command in the subject line of a message sent to If you choose to use digest mode, you will need to unsubscribe from the regular list if you wish to receive only the digest.
You may subscribe separately to the digest form of the list at any time by sending a "subscribe digest" command in the subject line of a message sent to Digests are sent nightly or whenever the quantity of postings reaches 25 since the last digest. You can have regular and digest subscriptions at the same time to the same address if you choose. When responding to messages when using digest mode, change to subject line to reflect the correct topic and please be especially careful to not quote an entire digest in your response. If you choose to use digest mode, you will need to unsubscribe from the regular list if you wish to receive only the digest.
You may quit the digest at any time by sending a "unsubscribe digest" command in the subject line of a message sent to
If your e-mail address changes, you must unsubscribe (see above) while using your old e-mail account and re-subscribe from your new account. For security reasons a list server will identify you from e-mail headers rather than allowing you to tell it who you are. If you allow your e-mail account to lapse before signing off of the list, please send e-mail to to let us know that this has happened. Please note that is is a good idea to subscribe from your new address and confirm that all is working well before signing off from your old one.
Filters, bounced mail, auto-responders - If you use spam filters you may need to set your filter software to always accept e-mail from the list server. Rejected e-mail is counted by the list server and if you get more than a dozen bounces your subscription will be turned off. If you believe that this has happened, you can just submit a new subscription and it will be turned back on. This will not result in double subscriptions. If you use an auto-responder for vacation or out-of-office purposes, please arrange to have it NOT respond to the mailing list.
